Spend Your Whole Holiday Season at the Sunset Marquis

’Tis the Season to be Jolly and live in West Hollywood! That’s how I describe the holidays here at the Sunset Marquis, so you can clearly tell it is one of my favorite times of year. We have a lot going on this holiday season, and we have a lot of reasons we’d love for you to be here.

First of all, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and we have a blog detailing all the reasons we hope to see you here for your Thanksgiving Feast. So, without repeating ourselves, let’s just say food and ambiance are two things we do best. Thanksgiving is a dream when you let us serve you. In fact, all of the holidays are a dream when you let us serve you while you simply relax and celebrate. Head to our Thanksgiving blog for details about the menu. However, it is most important to remember that we will be serving your Thanksgiving Feast from 3-9pm and offering a special takeaway of “leftovers.” Additionally, if you want the homey ambiance of, well, your home (which we understand!), you can also order our Thanksgiving Feast ahead of time “to go.” Again, please order in advance, and we will have your full meal ready when you arrive to pick it up – because cleaning up after eating is not the same thing as cleaning up after cooking. We’re hoping to help you avoid the latter.

After Thanksgiving, we get into our Holiday Party season. There is still time to call Anitra Peoples, our Director of Events, who is an angel of a human being and can plan whatever holiday party you’re needing to arrange. From the restaurant to the board room, the villa pool deck to the spa garden, or to the other garden, or oh that other garden – you know we have whatever space you need for your holiday event.

There are lots of reasons to stay and party with us this holiday season, so let’s take you through a few examples.

Holidays at the Sunset MarquisLet’s start with food. Our restaurant, Cavatina, is the most exceptional culinary experience offered at a place that feels like your “home away from home” on Sunset Boulevard. There are a lot of qualifiers there, but all of them are accurate. During the holidays, you want excellent food in a place that feels like home (or is, because some of you live with us!) that is also near enough to fun vacation-y things to do, which Sunset Boulevard has to offer. Our Executive Chef Luis Morales is an extraordinary talent in the kitchen. Creative and delicious, his food creations will satisfy your every cuisine need for comfort and excitement this holiday season.

Next up: atmosphere. We offer a long-standing, fascinating, and continuing history and relationship with the biggest names in music (who you may possibly see walking right past you when you visit us). We have ghost stories (I know that’s for the October holiday, but I think that counts for this holiday blog!), and we have gardens. Multiple pools, a koi pond, romantic pathways to hidden getaways, private entrances and exits, a recording studio, a photo gallery… What can we say? We are a world unto ourselves.

Our proximity to holiday things to do is such a broad topic that I am going to narrow it down and give you a selection of holiday lights to see in Los Angeles. One of my favorite things about living in West Hollywood is that it is the most central location in Los Angeles: you can get everywhere in thirty minutes or less (be sure you are picking a non-traffic time of day, of course). That means you can get to the Enchanted Forest of Lights in the Descanso Gardens in thirty minutes, Christmas at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in thirty minutes, and the L.A. Zoo Lights in thirty minutes or less. Christmas lights on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and Christmas at the Grove are both about ten minutes away, and if you haven’t heard here about a Christmas lights situation that peaks your interest, you can use Google to specify the type of Christmas activity you’d like to do. Los Angeles will give it to you.

Holidays at the Sunset MarquisNow that you’re convinced of all that, I want to take you through the Sunset Marquis’s Countdown to Christmas. First and foremost, of course, our property will be decorated everywhere with twinkle lights, as well as our Christmas trees and Christmas wreaths, all in their usual places. Then, from Decenter 20th-24th, we up the ante. There will be a cider and cookie station – both festive and delicious – in the lobby from 3-5pm. Our boardroom will be decorated for the holiday, and it will offer holiday movies on the large screen every evening with complimentary hot chocolate. Christmas carolers will be singing from 6-8pm; they will start in the lobby first, then move to Cavatina for the second hour of songs. Because of our storied and intimate history with the rock ’n’ roll community and our world class recording studio in the basement, you know that these carolers will be exceptional musicians. Executive Chef Luis Morales will be doing his finest work for you on Christmas Eve (menu coming soon!). And on Christmas Day, we will have a Holiday Brunch from 7am-2pm at our restaurant, Cavatina, which will feature an à la carte brunch menu with omelette and crepe stations. That night, Cavatina will serve a traditional Christmas Dinner (again, menu coming soon!). The teaser for the menu is that, yes, we will be servicing the yule log as one of our special holiday desserts.

I’m going to play pretend for a second – pretend that I’m a salesperson – and let you know that there are also special room promotions for the two-bedroom villas, as well as the presidential villa, which include five-foot and full-size Christmas trees, respectively. Or a menorah – a very important option! There will also be personalized stockings for all.

These room promotions continue for New Year’s Eve. We are offering a room package with a two-night stay minimum with 50% off overnight parking and a late check-out of 3pm, as well as a special amenity with NYE 2020 logo and a half bottle of champagne. After describing all of that, I’ve decided New Year’s Eve must be my next staycation at the Sunset Marquis.

Celebrate New Year's at the Sunset MarquisAlso on NYE, Bar 1200 will have a cover charge – a heads up! – and there will be live entertainment (piano music) with the ball drop and countdown at midnight. At the restaurant, Cavatina will be offering a five-course meal, live entertainment, the ball drop, and a champagne toast at midnight. Arguably most importantly, we will have Hangover Brunch on January 1st at Cavatina! Starting at 7am (because you are still awake?) and going to 2pm (because you slept in!), Cavatina will be offering an à la carte brunch menu with omelette and crepe stations, along with a Blood Mary and Mimosa Bar. You’re welcome.

Essentially, I have just planned your entire holiday season, so please bookmark this page for this season’s itinerary.

If all of this weren’t enough, on January 1st, Hollywood makes a quick turn into awards season, and we hope you will stay tuned for all of our offerings and fun then too.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Sunset Marquis!

Dear Friends,

For every single one of us, these are challenging times, both personally and professionally. The economic burden we all are bearing is difficult, and our hearts go out to all those who suffer adverse health issues from Covid-19. While we wait to hear news and updates from around the world, it is uplifting to learn about the positive things people are doing in our communities to help those unable to help themselves. It is humbling to see a warm spirit of humankind shining through during times of struggle.

At the Sunset Marquis Hotel and Villas, we appreciate your support and patience as we endeavor to provide the service and support for our staff and guests. For now, the hotel is open with limited services. We have closed our restaurant and bar in keeping with directives of government officials, but room service remains available, and we hope to offer take-out food service shortly. Our current operations follow the explicit guidelines set forth by the CDC to ensure the safety and welfare of our employees, our guests and their families.

While the road ahead will be difficult, one thing is certain; this, too, shall pass. We are optimistic and hopeful for a speedy end to this global crisis and confident that we will persevere by working together, coming together as a global community, and being patient and kind to one another. Thank you for your patronage, and we look forward to welcoming you back to a vibrant and lively Sunset Marquis very soon.

Very Truly Yours,

Mark “Marquis” Rosenthal
