BAR 1200 Cocktail // Lab

Cocktail Lab at Bar 1200 provides an interactive environment where you can hang with your buddies or take that special someone out for a clearly unique date. “Hey honey, whaddya say we hit BAR 1200 for some drinking classes?”

During your instruction, you’ll be fully engaged in the mixology process with “creative director” Matt Salinas, who also serves as the hotel's Bar Manager. Matt will give you a little lesson on the history of the “Booze du jour”, some popular drinks prepared with said alcohol, and then take you through the art of mixing the best drink, including things like when to shake instead of pour and what bar tools are essential for the home. Oh, and don’t be afraid to ask questions! At the end of the day, 99.9% of us have no idea how to make drinks, we just know how to drink them! So ask away and then, next time you’re with your peeps, impress them with your inside track on bartending. Recipes will be emailed to all who attend.

About BAR 1200 Manager, Matt Salinas.

Having worked at the famed restaurant P.J. Clarke's and other New York hot spots such as The Bowery Hotel and Hotel Gansevoort, Bar Manager Matthew Salinas brings something new to the bar scene here at BAR 1200 Cocktail // Lab.

Having observed the retro revival and culinary art of cocktail trends, Salinas has decided to turn BAR 1200 into an interactive classroom twice a month that will have you turning your averaged mixed drink at home into a chef-like cocktail.

About Classes

Classes run every 1^st and 3^rd Thursday of the month, or by appointment and classes are $45.00 pp/pc. Seating is limited to six students at a time, but we also offer private Cocktail Lab parties at no extra charge. Thanks again for such an entertaining evening! I can't remember the last time I have heard so much laughter in one room. The cocktails were artfully designed and absolutely delicious. You controlled the room professionally while interjecting well timed humor. I enjoyed your various history lessons on the origins of various cocktail ingredients, as well as stories about the unique Sunset Marquis Hotel. Having a private Cocktail Lab for a group of 6 is something I would definitely like to do again. What a great intimate and fun evening with good friends. Whiskey 101 is complete. What's next?

I had the opportunity to attend Bar 1200 Cocktail lab class in October. My friend and I had a blast. It was an intimate setting, yet still enough people to mingle and socialize. Our mixologist, Matt, was an excellent host. He made everyone feel welcome and found a way to make us all feel like a group even though we didn't know each other before arriving. The lab is perfect for the start of a girls night or a date night. The drinks and appetizers were delicious. A+ work :) Also the hotel has a very cool outdoor patio/pool area worth checking out as well. Looking forward to returning.
